The Intro: Then & Now

THE PROBLEM
As one of the WNBA’s founding franchises, The New York Liberty have always set the bar for culture and creativity, down to their intro films. But with league's 30th anniversary on the table, the 2026 intro had two jobs that didn't fit in one film: honor three decades of history, and introduce a record-breaking, largely new roster that was evolving in real time.

THE PIVOT
We built two films instead of one: THEN and NOW, both designed around a structure designed for seamless remixing as the team continued to finalize it’s roster.

THEN plays during the team's seven Court Origin nights, rewinding to 1996: flip phones, vintage Jeeps, The Fugees' debut album, archival footage from the Liberty's inaugural season, woven cut today's players in throwback jerseys and '90s textures.

NOW is a New York summer at full volume: speaker-wall energy from Bronx block parties, Brooklyn's Caribbean sound system culture, Harlem stoops, and streets from Queens to Coney Island.

Both are threaded with real fans — the people who've shown up from MSG to Westchester to Barclays through every era of Liberty basketball. By fans, for fans.

The result: Two films crafted for real-time roster changes and increased fan engagement. An in-house and online fan favorite, and another season of raising the culture and craft bar in the league by the founding team.
